What a great combination of venues- the ceremony was held in Lewes Grange Gardens registry office, followed by an Anchor Inn Barcombe wedding reception.
Southover Grange Gardens is a large and well maintained walled garden, attached to the historic registry office. It is open to the public and is a lovely spot in general, with a small hole-in-the-wall cafe for take aways.
After sneaking off to nearby cobbled Keere Street for photos the couple and guests boarded a vintage bus to the Anchor Inn Barcombe wedding reception. The route to Barcombe is very pretty, but winding and bumpy at times, so a few drinks didn’t quite make it! It’s such a sociable and fun way to travel between wedding venues.
The Anchor Inn is in a idyllic countryside position next to the River Ouse, with the main pub at the front, and a marquee at the back for weddings. The pub also hires out the adjacent field if you want to camp overnight, or to put up a bouncy castle in this case!
The couple chose the Anchor Inn after stumbling across it on a country walk during Covid, which led them camping nearby and enjoying daily rides along the river in the little boats they have for hire. They fell in love with the pub, and knew it would be the perfect place for their wedding.
It was great fun for the guests and the couple to hop into the boats and enjoy a trip along the river. The sun was shining, and it felt completely blissful and unique to be able to go boating at a wedding.

Brighton Town Hall have a huge room on the top floor, the Council Chamber, which feels very grand and the light and architecture of the top floor is stunning. The Connaught has high ceilings, great food, and a lovely rear garden. You can get exclusive use of the pub for wedding receptions.
