Katie and Dan’s DIY (Do It Yourself) Arundel wedding was held in the magical hamlet of South Stoke, on the outskirts of the Arundel Park estate. A very long, winding and narrow road lead to the tiny village of South Stoke, and I questioned more than once if I were going the wrong way and was lost.
South Stoke consists of only a few houses, the wonderful and historic church (which features in the Domesday Book), and the Farm just across the lane, where Katie and Dan had hired the farm barn and wonderfully decorated it themselves for their reception. Katie’s dad had even made the sweet carts, doughnut stand, signs and many more- he is so talented! The barn consists of an arches semi open ground floor, where everyone enjoyed the drinks, cakes, cheese and sweets. The hog roast dinner was then served upstairs on the top floor, and this is where the band played in the evening. The views from all sides of the barn were just beautiful, it’s so remote and surrounded by fields. This barn is quite a secret, they don’t advertise so people simply find out by word of mouth. It was by chance that friends of theirs had married there a few years before, so one day they took a drive to the village and popped a note through the farmhouse letterbox expressing their interest- and were delighted to receive a prompt call back to say they could indeed book it!
Katie is training as a Vetenary Nurse, so it was very fitting having their reception held on a farm, surrounded by animals. When we spotted the gorgeous horses peering over to see what was going on we took the opportunity to grab a few shots, and Katie reaching out to touch the horse is one of my favourite images of the day.
