I was so excited when Abby and Bread first contacted me to discuss shooting their Macs Chicken Farm wedding! I happen to live in the same village as the farm, so I regularly pop up there to buy my eggs or to attend one of the many open day events they hold there over the summer.
My daughter loves to stand amongst them, and if stand still they quickly come over and start pecking at your wellies, which she find hilarious! Thankfully Abby and Bread were amused by their tiny pecking too, and endured it for long enough for us to get some shots as you will see below.
Abby is a talented artist, creating amazing wooden sculptures, which featured at the wedding. Her creative eye was certainly clear when we walked inside the venue as well, The Old Chicken Shed, where the corrugated iron ceiling was transformed with hundreds of (or maybe thousands of) hand made woollen tassels. She had also positioned some of her beautiful wooden owls around the room, and had a created a floral arch for the ceremony.
They actually got married at the town hall a couple of weeks before, with only a few family present, which meant they were able to be creative with the ceremony too. Two of their cousins officiated, which meant they were able to make the ceremony personal and funny.
They had a great pot luck style wedding breakfast, so all the guests had brought a dish, which resulted in a great feast with lots of variety. This is great idea for DIY wedding venues like Macs Farm Farm.
A DIY (do it yourself) wedding is perfect for couples on a budget. I had a DIY wedding myself in 2015, and I really enjoyed the freedom to choose how to make it our own and we could choose exactly the food, decor, entertainment and details that we wanted. If you want some more information on wedding venues in the area, I wrote a Brighton Wedding Venues Guide. I can highly recommend a Macs Chicken Farm Wedding though, the family that run it are wonderful and so friendly, and its a beautiful farm for your guests to stroll around to say hello to the chickens whilst sipping a glass of bubbly. And you can also camp there with your guests, and make your wedding a weekend long event!
